what are search engines

Search engine optimization means optimizing for search engines. But actually for what?

Here are the market shares of major search engines (Germany / Central Europe):
    First Google> 85%
    Second Yahoo ~ 3%
    Third MSN ~ 2.5%
    4th T-Online ~ 2%
    5th AOL ~ 1.5%
(Rank 4 +5 draw their data from Google, whose market share amounts to about 90%!)

You see, basically it is currently only on a search engine, namely Google! Click here for more tips on search engine Google.
Forget search engines record software that allows you to add your web site to 10,000 search engines. 99.9% of them are almost meaningless, a search engine entry is therefore a waste of time.
In general, the search engine submission of your website is not really necessary. If your site is linked at least once somewhere, they will sooner or later emerge from the search engine index entirely alone, without a search engine submission.Because a search engine bot automatically follows all links that it finds. Registration in search engines but nothing is hurt, but basically a waste of time. More important is the entry in directories.
Be sure to report how many query hit the major search engines for relevant search terms. The more there are, the harder it is to achieve a good ranking (among the top 5 or 10 hits). Here is a very rough estimate:
to 50,000 hits: relatively easy, even without special optimization
50000-500000 hit: more difficult, but with the know-how, no problem
500000-5 million hits: hard work, long quite possible
more than 5 million hits: hard to predict; possible with know-how, perseverance, patience and a little luck in individual cases
Of course, other factors also play a role:
How relevant is the topic you want your website?
How often it is linked from other websites?
Are also optimized the websites of competitors?
What topics are of relevance and link popularity of your competitors?
